Job Description

Job Summary

Responds to and investigates citizen complaints involving animals within

unincorporated Mesa County. Works proactively with team members to develop

creative solutions to resolve animal incidents appropriately.

Essential Job Functions

Responds to incidents involving animals within unincorporated Mesa County.

Initiates law enforcement activity related to animals and violations of the

Mesa County Animal Services Resolution, within unincorporated Mesa County.

Investigates animal complaints to include the collection of evidence,

interviews and timely completion of required forms and reports.

Searches records databases to identify animal owners and licensing statuses.

Determines appropriate resolutions to animal incidents to include issuing

warnings, county ordinance violations and summons.

Transports impounded animals to designated holding facility(s).

Transports injured animals to designated veterinarians for emergency care.

Works collaboratively with Animal Services Center personnel, Sheriff s

personnel and Public Health personnel.

Manages assigned cases.

Prepares affidavits and other legal documents, as required. Assists in

developing cases for prosecution and provides witness testimony.

Acts as an ambassador to the citizens of Mesa County in regards to animal

related issues.

May be involved in community messaging, related to animals. This may

include: in person presentations, press releases, social media, radio

and on camera interviews.

Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.

Works as a member of a team of professionals that fosters a safe and

positive environment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the

knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Valid Colorado Driver s License (Required)

Animal Welfare Association of Colorado Animal Control Officer

Certification (If not held, must be obtained within 1 year of hire)

National Animal Control Association Certification (If not held, may be

obtained after hire)

Physical Requirements And Working Environment

This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending,

twisting, and lifting up to 100 pounds.

Must be able to pursue, capture and control a wide variety of different

animals.

Work environment includes office environment, extensive driving,

walking and field work in the community in any type of weather conditions.

Requires wearing a uniform.

Noise Level Is Generally Moderate, However Can Experience Short-term,

high decibel levels.

May be exposed to communicable diseases.

Must be available for shift/weekend/holiday work and overtime.

Compensation

The wage range for this position is $26.20 - $31.94
