Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The Watson College of Education's Elementary Education Program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is seeking to hire a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2025. We seek to hire a faculty member with experience and expertise in Elementary (K-6) education with a specialization in the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Applicants should have a strong background and scholarly record/trajectory in the teaching and learning of mathematics at the K-6 levels. Faculty in the elementary education program area are dedicated to preparing teachers to respond to the needs of all children and families in an increasingly diverse and global society. We are committed to building a diverse faculty and therefore seek candidates who will contribute to the creation of an equitable and inclusive culture through their teaching, research, and service.
The ideal candidate will be able to:

1. Teach math methods courses for undergraduate, graduate, MAT, and/or lateral entry students in various delivery modes including face-to-face, online, and technology-enhanced
2. Supervise students during Clinical Field Experiences
3. Actively engage in scholarly activities including developing a research agenda, publishing in significant high-impact refereed journals, and securing competitive grants.
4. Collaborate with colleagues in the program, department, and university, including laboratory school settings and/or other field-based sites
5. Assist in ongoing program revision and assessment
6. Provide leadership and service to the profession, university, college, department, community, and local public schools

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

1. Doctorate in mathematics education or a closely related field by appointment date
2. Minimum of 3 years of K-6 elementary public school teaching experience
3. Evidence of scholarship within the field of elementary mathematics education or closely related field
4. Potential for successful university teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

1. Research, teaching, and/or service experiences centered in culturally sustaining pedagogies or other methods of making mathematics education accessible and relevant to all students.
2. Experience teaching K-6 math methods course at the university level in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.
3. Experience with supervision or mentoring of pre-service or in-service teachers
4. Knowledge of CPAST, edTPA or similar assessments
5. Experience successfully responding to and navigating educational policy
6. Eligibility for NC teaching license

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master's programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master's and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers several international study programs, a newly developed laboratory school, and maintains partnerships with numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region.
