The Club Sports Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing trainer coverage for all home events and tournaments.
Trainer Coverage
Be present at all intercollegiate contests during the pre-season, regular season, and post-season for club sports to provide trainer coverage in the event of an illness or injury. Evaluate sports injuries and referral as appropriate to a physician and/or physical therapist.
Manage concussion-related injuries including post-concussion follow-up and referrals to a concussion specialist for return to play clearance, per the University concussion protocol.
Work directly with the specified physician and Health Services staff to monitor current medical status of ill or injured athletes and advise applicable head coach when it is medically safe for the athlete to return to competition.
Proctor ImPACT testing pre-season and post injury. Keep open lines of communication with Health Services and the coaching staff for every sports event covered.
Order, upkeep and be responsible for inventory control of all supplies for club sports teams.
Documentation and Other Duties
Work with the Club Sports Director and coaches to obtain clearance histories, physicals, informed consents and waivers required to play club sports at the University.
Maintain accurate and thorough keeping of daily injury records on all players under contract with the University club sports program.
Provide pre-season concussion educating to the club sport athletes and their coaches and have the athlete sign a concussion fact sheet.
Additional Functions
Must use professional judgment in managing confidentiality regarding all matters involving restricted information for students, faculty, staff, the department and the University.
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or supervisor"s designee.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor"s Degree in a Health and Physical Education or a related field.
Rhode Island licensed Athletic Trainer (State Department of Health).
National Athletic Trainers" Association Certified Athletic Trainer. CPR/AED Professional Rescuer.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a variety of individuals within the University community including faculty, students, staff, parents and alumni.
Ability to function in a service and team-oriented environment.
Ability to function independently, display strong attention to detail, work under pressure, meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects.
Strong ability to work effectively with student-athletes.
Preferred Qualifications
ImPACT test certification.
