Job Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology and its committed team of faculty, staff, and researchers, are dedicated to high-quality resident education, excellence in patient care, and a commitment to advancing the science of Ophthalmology and Vision Science.

 

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine is offering a three year fellowship in Ophthalmology and Vision science research. The fellowship runs from May 2025 through May 2028. The fellow would manage three basic and translational research projects under one-on-one mentorship from Ophthalmology faculty. The fellow would be expected to submit and present abstracts at annual meetings and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. 

Essential Functions

  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff and students.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. 
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well. 
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent in a relevant field).
  • In-depth knowledge of Ophthalmology and Molecular genetics.

Required Experience

  • At least two years of prior laboratory experience with cell culture, protein and DNA manipulation, animal experimentation.
  • Experience with software programs in use in the laboratory, including Excel, PowerPoint, Prism, Word desirable.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
